The Cost of a Job Interview

So someone I know was contacted for an interview. The prospective employer asks this person to complete a communications audit on their current plan and craft a strategy document with complete recommendations & tactics based on the audit to be presented at the interview.

The interviewee must also craft this in a document to be printed on 5 copies – oh and this is in 3 days.

My response to the interviewee on how to proceed:

“Thank you for your interest in working with me. I would love to complete an audit on your current tactics and create strategies to implement within the next 90 days.

I currently charge $750 for a base website audit and marketing plans start at $4500. I’m happy to provide both but with 3 days notice, I would have to implement a 25% rush charge on both of those. I’ve attached an invoice for your 50% deposit that is payable upon receipt.”

Oh and the cost of copying those reports should be included too. Staples I think charges 0.49 a page plus tax sooooo $14 plus gas and time to the copies.

Soooo total estimated cost of this interview: $5820

KNOW YOUR WORTH. Don’t let the thirst get in the way. It doesn’t matter if you’re an entrepreneur trying to make a sale or applying for a job – letting people work you for free is not acceptable. Stand up and make sure others know that you’re skills are worthy of getting paid.
